Certified Neonatal Pediatric Transport

Overview

Neonatal transport is a fast-growing field with new patient care opportunities expanding daily. Advanced certification is not just a resume bullet point – it’s a way for you to demonstrate your proficiency and professionalism as an employee, contractor, or potential hire. Whether you’re starting your career in neonatal transport or are simply looking for ways to increase your value as an employee, advanced certifications can put you on the fast track to success. If you’re interested in becoming certified as a Neonatal Pediatric Transport (C-NPT) specialist or would like to know more about this certification before making that decision, read on!

What Is a Certified Neonatal Pediatric Transport Specialist?

A Certified Neonatal Pediatric Transport provider must first understand the concept that neonatal and pediatric patients are DEFINITELY NOT little adults. These subsets of patients are specialized requiring unique training and real-world experience are needed to be able to properly care for these patients. As with any advanced, specialty care, it takes building a base of knowledge from the ground up starting with the smallest details of pathophysiology. Once you understand that, you can begin to build your practice to the next level as you become more competent and confident with treating even the most complex neonatal cases.

Become C-NPT Certified Becoming C-NPT certified begins with passing a specialized exam. This exam is designed to test your knowledge on a broad range of topics, including neonatal transport as a whole and your skills in specific areas. For example, you might be tested on your knowledge of neonatal resuscitation techniques, your ability to read and interpret lab values, or your ability to calculate dosages and administer medications.

In order to become C-NPT certified, you must be a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, respiratory therapist, paramedic, physician, or physician assistant practicing in either the United States or Canada. You must also have at least two years of experience in your profession. Candidates can prepare for the exam in a number of ways, but we suggest reviewing the National Certification Corporation (NCC) recommendations for the exam document. It is also HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that candidates prepare by taking PRACTICE EXAMS to help guide study and determine readiness for the actual examination.

Why Become a C-NPT?

As noted above, neonatal transport is a fast-growing field that’s seeing a lot of new opportunities right now. The question is, why should you choose the Certified Neonatal Transport certification in particular? There are a few key reasons that make the C-NPT certification stand out from the crowded field of neonatal transport certifications. First, it’s one of the most recognized certifications among employers and medical professionals. While many organizations offer neonatal transport certification, the C-NPT is widely accepted and understood. Second, the C-NPT certification process is highly rigorous and thorough. The exam is challenging and reflects an understanding of the realities of neonatal transport in the critical care field. By obtaining your certification, you demonstrate your knowledge in this highly specialized field in treating this patient population subset and providing essential transport medicine for some of the most delicate patients you will ever encounter in the field.
